2010 Happy New Year

Happy 2010...
Good food, good wine and good friends

I want to take the opportunity to wish all of our readers a wonderful new year.

Over the last few months you will have noticed a big drop in blog entries and recipe development. No we have not forgotten you all, life just caught up with us. With the St. Thomas BBQ event and changing jobs for some of us, priorities shifted. Unfortunately the board suffered. It was my plan to get back to posting our adventures on a more timely basis, things did not go that way.

If you remember I was successful at winning Canada's first national chili contest. The prize was a trip to the Mexican Rivera which Barb and I took late November. I was going to take Susan but I found a new skill over the summer that had life preservation attributes  "think first."   (be sure brain is engaged before putting your mouth in gear...I took my spouse)

Disaster struck and on my second full day at the resort, which was paradise by the way, I got a leg infection and was hospitalized for the remainder of the week. I only just got back to work over the Christmas holidays thus causing another delay in posting.

By the way I have a great update for you all, I am pleased to announce that I was successful in winning one of the three finalist positions for the 2010 National Chili Contest sponsored by Zantac. Look for my new recipe "1 Wiri Wiri Hot Chili"
inspired by the hot little pepper from Guyana. These little guys are fantastic, much hotter then the jalaoeno pepper,  coming in at 150,000 scoville units. OUCH!

Just as special Mike Kerslake also won a spot for his recipe "Grinnin' Like a Butcher's Dog" Smokey BBQ Chili, how awesome both of us got into the final three. We will have to wait till February to see who will take the title for 2010 Chili Champion.

Well I promise more posts, maybe this year I can get Susan to do her magical corn bread recipe. It's one of those things we have been considering keeping for competitions so it may or may not go up.

Look for new recipes coming in the next few days

Cheers from the Big Dog
